The Giles Meteorological Station lies 230km north-east of Warburton.
Shortly before Giles, the road joins the original route of the Gunbarrel Highway. This is one of many tracks built through the outback for scientists monitoring the results of British rocket tests at Woomera in South Australia in the 1950s.
The road surface is generally adequate for suitably prepared vehicles. From Giles, care is needed on sandy sections of the rad to the Docker River Settlement, just across the Northern Territory boarder. Yulara and Uluru are a further 233km away.
