Pingelly, originally settled by pastoralists and sandalwood timber cutters in the 1840s, came into prominence some 40 years late with the completion of the railway.

The former Court House, built in 1907, has been converted to a museum depicting the history of the district.  Pingelly also has an arts and crafts cottage and a private wildlife sanctuary.

At Mourambine, 8km to the east, St Patrick’s Church of England, built in 1871 and still in use, is the starting point for a Heritage Trail through the old town site taking in early settlers’ cottages and other historical sites.

Visitors wishing to experience modern agricultural life can take advantage of individual “Shearing in Action” trips to neighboring farms organized through the Pingelly Shire Office.
